Terms of Service

Last updated: May 20, 2026

Window Tint Calculator is a free tool that estimates window tint Visible Light Transmission (VLT) and references state-by-state legal limits. Please read these terms before using the calculator or relying on the information published here.

Educational use only

The combined VLT figure produced by the calculator is an estimate based on the values you enter and a published optical formula. It is not a tintmeter reading, not a legal compliance certificate, and not a substitute for a vehicle inspection. State and local law enforcement use calibrated tintmeters to measure actual VLT on installed glass; small variations in factory glass thickness, film batch, and installation quality can shift the real-world number by several percentage points.

State law information

We publish window tint VLT minimums and windshield rules for all 50 U.S. states plus the District of Columbia. We update these figures when statutes change, but tint laws are amended state by state and county-level exceptions exist. Before installing film or contesting a citation, always verify the current rule with your state DMV, your state vehicle code, or a licensed attorney. Do not rely solely on this site to determine whether your tint is legal.

Accuracy disclaimer

We work to keep the formulas, factory glass averages, and state law references accurate, but we make no warranty of completeness, fitness for a particular vehicle, or freedom from error. If you spot a wrong VLT value or out-of-date statute, please send us a note through the contact page and we'll investigate.

Limitation of liability

Window Tint Calculator and its operators are not liable for any tickets, fines, failed inspections, removed film, vehicle damage, or other costs arising from use of the calculator or reliance on the published information. The site is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. If a tint shop, inspector, or court reaches a different conclusion than the calculator, the official measurement and statute control.

Acceptable use

You may use the calculator for personal vehicle planning, professional tint shop customer estimates, fleet compliance checks, and educational purposes. You may not scrape the site at automated rates, copy the formulas and content into a competing calculator, or republish the state law tables without attribution and a link back.

Intellectual property

The calculator UI, written content, diagrams, and code on this site are the property of Window Tint Calculator. You're welcome to share short quotes with attribution and link to any page, but you may not reproduce full articles, the state law dataset, or the calculator interface elsewhere without written permission.

Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms when laws, features, or the calculator itself change. Continued use of the site after a revision means you accept the updated terms. The "last updated" date above will reflect any change.
